So you’ve been approved to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments. When will you get your first check? How often will you receive benefits? Here are the basic facts of receiving payments for SSDI:
- There are two options as far as Social Security Direct Deposit payment methods go. You can elect to receive your benefits either by direct deposit into your bank account or by prepaid Direct Express Debit Mastercard.
- Any issues with payments should be taken up at the local level. Contact your closest Social Security office to get any problems with payments or deposits taken care of.
- Payments are generally sent a month after they are due. So the money you receive will actually be the benefits from the previous month. This system is actually very beneficial as it gives you time to prepare for any changes in your benefit amount.
- As far as the actual day of payment, that depends on your birthday (or the birthday of the beneficiary). For a birthday on the 1st of the month through the 10th, the payment is the second Wednesday of every month. For birthdays on the 11-20, the payment is the third Wednesday. Those who were born on the 20th of the month through the end of the month receive their benefits on the fourth Wednesday of the month. If the day falls on a federal holiday, your payment will be scheduled for one day earlier.
Keep in mind that if you receive SSI payments or both SSI and SSDI, your payment dates may differ.
