Jan Dils founded our law firm with one goal in mind: to fight on behalf of everyday people who are disabled or injured.
As a young girl, Jan had a firsthand experience with the challenges people face when applying for social security disability. She watched her aunt, who was battling a cancer diagnosis, get denied her Social Security disability benefits. It left Jan feeling powerless – but motivated.
She vowed to become a voice for those who were silenced by the system. She was determined to make a difference in the lives of people like her aunt who needed help to fight for what they deserve.
In 1994, her dream became a reality when she opened Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, as the solo attorney and employee. She established a name for herself fighting for social security benefits for her clients with tenacity and compassion. Soon, the firm expanded to include a personal injury practice, winning compensation for people who were injured through no fault of their own. Before long, the firm added a third practice area: Veteran’s Benefits. It was a natural addition, as veterans are at the heart of our community.
Today, Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law, is the largest female founded law firm in the country. We have a client-centered team of over 150 team members with an unparalleled work ethic and a passion for providing a voice to individuals with disabilities and injuries. We have gained national attention with awards like Top Workplace 2023, National Trial Lawyers Top 100, National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys Top 10, and more.
The firm’s headquarters stands in Jan’s hometown of Parkersburg, West Virginia – in the former social security building where she watched her aunt get denied. In fact, Jan’s office is where the old waiting room used to be. Jan has deep roots in the Mid Ohio Valley, and the firm has become a fixture in the community. We host an annual spaghetti dinner, a 5K race that benefits local veterans, and a number of other events as a way to give back to the community that is our home.
Jan and her husband, Chuck Hughes, formed the Jan Dils Foundation which provides support to many Veteran organizations each year. The foundation has supported Operation Transportation which provides free bus passes to Veterans, We Have Your Six which provides financial assistance to Veterans in need, and funded scholarships through the Jan Dils Foundation for Veteran Recipients.
The firm has changed a lot in the decades since it was established, but its core values have remained consistent: Client-Centered Focus, Community, Caring, Collaboration, and Continuous Improvement. Our clients are still at the heart of what we do, and nothing is more important to our team than fighting to make our client’s lives better.
