The best phone call I can receive is one where the client has finally been approved for Social Security disability benefits. Now comes the financial side of your claim. There are several things to keep in mind at this point. If your claim is for Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) only, your file will go to the payment center for calculations of any benefits you are due. This can take approximately 30-60 days, depending upon what they need to figure the benefit. Once they have calculated your benefits, you should receive an award letter showing you how much money you are entitled to. Under this specific program, you are not paid a back benefit for the first five months that you are disabled.
If you have also been approved for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), that portion of your claim is sent to your local Social Security office. Once they have received your favorable decision, they will contact you for a financial interview. This is an update of the financial questions that you were asked at the time of your application.
