The Social Security Administration (SSA) added 13 new conditions to the Compassionate Allowances List (CAL) in August 2025. Through this initiative, the list includes conditions and disorders which presumptively meet the SSA definitions for disability benefits.
With these additions, the SSA now recognizes 300 severely disabling conditions that automatically qualify for Social Security benefits. Learn more about these new additions to the Compassionate Allowances List now and call our SSDI attorneys if you need help with securing benefits.
CAL conditions are medical health issues that qualify for expedited processing for disability benefits because of the nature of the disease. These disorders include rare ailments that affect children, adult brain disorders, and some types of cancer. Inclusion on the CAL means that patients do not have to meet extensive medical reviews to prove their case. In this situation, it can be approved in a few weeks or months. The SSA has newly approved the following medical conditions:
In order to be included on the CAL, these conditions must be chronic, severe, or life-threatening. Furthermore, any ailment on the list must be a profoundly disabling disorder with a high probability that the impairment will not resolve. Once you have a confirmed diagnosis, the SSA will not require additional medical tests to confirm your case before approving your claim.
The Compassionate Allowance Initiative has enrolled more than 1.1 million severely disabled individuals since its inception. By creating a way to fast-track certain serious medical conditions that, by definition, meet Social Security’s requirements for disability benefits, the government cuts through red tape to ensure those who need assistance receive it quickly.
There are more than 300 conditions on the Compassionate Allowance list now. However, if you think that a condition should be part of the CAL list and is not, we can give you tips on how to complete the SSA’s forms to suggest a condition for consideration.
