Attention: Was Someone You Love Killed or Injured in an IED or EFP Attack?

The U.S.S. Cole naval vessel was the target of a terrorist attack in the Yemeni port of Aden on October 12, 2000. A verdict of roughly $2 billion was finally rendered in favor of 112 plaintiffs on July 29, 2024. These plaintiffs included family of the 17 Navy Sailors who were killed in the attack, and Veterans of the Navy.

There were 299 crew men on board the Cole at the time of the attack. 170 claimants, including Veterans and their families, have been represented thus far, and additional lawsuits are being developed to support over two hundred additional worthy individuals in their pursuit of justice.

What is an IED?

An IED, or improvised explosive device, is a bomb that is “homemade” and intended to cause major damage, and often used by terrorists, criminals, and insurgents. They can be simple pipe bombs or sophisticated devices that can cause a great deal of damage. These lethal weapons can be used in a variety of ways, including by people carrying or throwing them, and they can be concealed in cars, packages, or along the roadside. During the Iraq War, the term “IED” gained widespread recognition.

What is an EFP?

An Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) is a lethal kind of improvised explosive device that shoots metal bullets at high speeds through armor to kill targets. EFPs were first created during World War II and have since been widely employed in contemporary wars, especially by troops supported by Iran. EFPs are particularly dangerous because of their remarkable ability to deal massive damage from at a distance. Many attacks connected to terrorist funding resulted in a large number of U.S. personnel deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.
