Veterans often ask how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) evaluates their disabilities and assigns them a rating that informs how much their monthly checks are. Our 2026 VA Disability Calculator will help you understand your rating, which is important because you could lose out on thousands of dollars in benefits each year if the VA miscalculates it.
The VA uses percentages of percentages rather than simply adding disability ratings. Each additional rating is applied to the remaining efficiency, and the result is rounded to the nearest 10 percent.
When both arms, both legs, or paired skeletal muscles are disabled, the VA applies a bilateral factor before the final rating is determined.
Use the calculator above for an estimate, then contact our experienced Veteran disability attorneys for help with your claim.
