What is an Online Application?

My job as in intake specialist here at Jan Dils Attorneys at Law is to help people apply for disability benefits, sign up to become our clients, and answer any questions that they may have along the way.

One of the most common complaints I get when a client comes in to see me is, “I tried to get online and apply myself and it was too confusing.” This is very common. Luckily, we are here to help.

There are 3 main steps I take when helping a new client apply for disability. The first is to let them know what information I need from them. This information includes medical history, work history, dates, time periods, etc. The list of what is needed can be sent to clients beforehand so they can put all the information together. I take all of this information and put it in the computer system here at Jan Dils so the next time they come in, whoever is helping them can read it.Of course, if all this seems too complicated, the employees at

Next, I start the online application at www.ssa.gov. The application is general and normally doesn’t take long to complete. It will start off by asking for your name, address, phone number, social security number, and the last day that you worked. If you don’t know for sure, try to estimate the best that you can. This information is important in helping Social Security narrow down a date as to when you might be able to be found disabled under their rules.

The next part that needs to be completed is called an Adult Disability Report. You will need to list all of the doctors that you have seen for your disabilities. Make sure to fill everything out and not leave anything blank. You will also put in either your past 5 jobs or your past 15 years of work history whichever one applies to you. Make sure to type in the remarks section anything you didn’t have room for or feel like Social Security needs to know. Follow the remaining steps until you are ready to submit your report and then you are done.

Of course, if all this seems too complicated, the employees at Jan Dils Attorneys at Law would be glad to help you. Call us at 1-877-526-3457 for a free consultation or an appointment.
