What are the basic requirements to qualify for direct service-connection for VA disability?

To establish direct service-connection for VA disability compensation, three elements are required:

A current medical diagnosis of a disability
Evidence of an in-service event, injury, or illness
A medical nexus (link) connecting the current disability to your military service

All three elements must be supported by evidence for service-connection to be granted.
